Instrument assisted soft tissue Mobilization

Instrument assisted soft tissue Mobilization

What Is Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization?

(IASTM) is a popular treatment for myofascial restriction resulting in decreased range of motion, pain and affects normal function. IASTM uses specially designed instruments to provide a mobilizing effect to scar tissue, myofascial adhesions and chronic inflammation that may have been caused by a strained muscle or tendon.

How is it done?

Skilled clinicians use the stainless steel instruments to “scrape” on fibrotic tissue, the instruments are used to break up the scar tissue so it can be absorbed by the body.

What does it do?

It separates and breaks down collagen cross-links which in turn stretches connective tissue and muscle fibers. It also increases the rate and amount of blood flow to and from the area.

What can you expect?

It is common to experience minor discomfort during the procedure and some bruising afterwards. This is a normal response and part of the healing process.

What can it help with?

IASTM when combined with chiropractic can be very beneficial.
